Why I Like to Travel

I love to travel because I get to have new experiences, meet new people, and learn new things.

The first reason I love to travel is that I get to have new experiences. When I was in Nicaragua I got to hold baby sea turtles. The turtle researchers brought the baby turtles onto the beach. They were only a day old and so tinny. We took them out of black bins and put them on the beach, then went out in the ocean and set them free. I got to hold the baby sea turtles and then I got to swim with them. That was such an amazing experience!

The second reason I love travel is because I meet new people. For example, I met a girl my age who was staying at our resort in Belize and we hung out with her frequently. She was from Massachusetts and she swam for a swim team that I knew. And she was there with her best friend. We hung out in the pool and got to drink a bunch of pina coladas. She was really cool.

The third reason I love travel is that I learn new and cool things. I went to the Azores and I learned that all the islands are volcanic and they are sitting on tectonic plates that shift and create volcanoes. We went to an island called Faial, which is Portuguese for fire. There are so many volcanoes on the island that they named it Faial! On the island there was a lighthouse right next to a big volcano right next to houses. In the 1950s the volcano erupted and destroyed the houses and the lighthouse. The homes where completely covered in ash. Now all you can see are the roofs of the houses. I hope to go back and see the rest of the islands some day.

In conclusion having new experiences, meeting new people, and learning new things is why I love to travel. I am looking forward to my next trip!
