Cotopaxi and Quilotoa Crater Lake

Cotopaxi is the second biggest volcano in Ecuador. To get there, we went to a big city called Quito where we caught a bus to Machichi. We stayed at a place called Papagoya, it was a horse farm. The first day we were there we had a horse lesson with the two girls that worked there. Their names were Mira and Savana. The lesson was so much fun. We got to brush the horses and clean out there shoes. After we did that we got to ride them. My horses name was Joy and he liked to laugh.

The next day we took a bus to see Quilotoa Crater Lake. A crater lake is a volcano that erupted and collapsed in on itself and then when it rains it collects water and it turns into a lake. You could walk down to the bottom, but it was really hard to walk back up because it was so steep, so we did not walk the whole way down. Instead of he water being really hot, since it is in a volcano, it is really cold because it is at a high elevation. On our way back home, we stopped and met a family that lives in the mountains and we got to see their house and how they lived.  The family had a lot of guinea pigs in their house to help keep it warm, and they eat them.

  1. Once you’re home you will never look at Guinea pigs the same way. Hope I spelled it correctly. Love reading 😍 your adventures. XO

  2. Ella,
The horses were beautiful. You looked so at ease with them. What a fun thing to do.
The crater lake also was gorgeous. It’s interesting that no heat is coming up through the volcano. It must have collapsed very far down or the volcano isn’t active. Being as cold as you said makes me shiver. I was surprised at the number of people on the trail in the video. It must be a very popular spot.
