We would walk to Spanish school every morning in Miraflores, Lima. It took about 25 minutes from our house. The city was very crowded and there were lots of places to eat. Along my walk we saw Mexican, Chinese (it is a mix between Peruvian and Chinese food and is called Chifa here), Indian, burger places, chicken places, and fast food places like McDonalds, KFC, Chili’s, and Starbucks. The city was very busy.
We also saw many dogs as we walked to school. There were lots of small, fancy breeds and they were super cute. For example, we saw many small fluffy dogs that looked like Pomeranians. We also saw a dog wearing shoes!
We were staying with a woman right in the city and it was a very fancy area of the city. Her house was very big and it felt old. She had a really cute dog but the dog was not very friendly and was loud and barked a lot.
My Spanish teacher’s name was Patty and she was a really good teacher. I met with her for 2 hours every morning and we did different things every day. I liked many of the new Spanish words I learned.

When I had my class, my parents were learning the same things in a different class with their teacher, Carlos. They had to spend two more hours than me every day in class! We all graduated at the end of the week.
After we finished Spanish class, we would walk around the city and eat lunch in a new restaurant each time. One day we had lunch with the school and our teachers. I had the best chicken parm! Some of my favorite foods have been crepes and Indian food, but a really good dish was rice with shrimp and a Peruvian yellow pepper spice. We had dessert at that restaurant too!
One day we stopped at a cafe and I had the best Chai Latte I’ve ever had! After lunch, we went to the park to work out!!!

We also went to salsa dancing class and we had Thanksgiving dinner with the school. We brought an apple pie and whipped cream to the dinner! Salsa dancing class was way more fun then I thought it would be and it was really hard to learn the steps. My first partner was my dad and my second partner was Chad. Chad was really tall so it made it harder to turn. I might try salsa dancing again!
In Marifloras, we went to Kennedy Park and it was filled with cats. The cats were taken care of by a nonprofit. There was water and food bowls through out the park. My favorite cat was a kitten that was hiding in a tree.

The coolest part of the city is the surfing. You can surf at the beach right in the city. We walked about 4 blocks from our hostel to the surfing beach where the waves are good sized and fun to ride.

Ella,
you really are having an adventure. Can you understand the people in the city when they are speaking? Is it fun to understand some of what is going on around you? I am very impressed by what you have experienced and all the new things you have tried. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for the salsa classes. Lucky you!!!
Keep on learning and writing. I love it.

Dear Ella,
You certainly have had varied experiences! Mayan ruins, cave exploring, snorkeling, scuba diving, rain forest, living on a farm and on an island, and now learning Spanish and DANCING THE SALSA IN THE BIG CITY!
Life is going to seem very dull when you come back home. Enjoy every minute of your adventure. You have an opportunity that very few people have. I’m jealous! Just kidding – I’m not brave enough to do half the things that you have done. I’m happy for you. Please, keep on sharing. I look forward to each blog.
