One of the two places we went to in Panama was called Bocas Del Toro. Bocas is an archipelago of islands in the Atlantic Ocean. We stayed on an island called Isla Cristobal. This island is totally off the grid, meaning the power and water on the island come from the island, not a source that is generated by humans. The island gets it water from rainfall and it’s power from the sun. They were having a drought so they could not use much of the rainwater they had stored, so we had to be very careful as well. The place we stayed at was called Dolphin Bay Hideaway. They call it that because there are over 100 dolphins in the bay. One of the activities we did was go snorkeling in the coral around the mangroves. I thought it was going to be weird, but the coral was so untouched and so colorful. There were really weird animals, like a under water spider thing that was really creepy. But on the way back from snorkeling the dolphins came up next to the boat and swam with us the whole way back to our dock. We were told that at night there was bioluminescence in the ocean (those are micro plants that glow when it is very dark out and you move the water.) So at night, one women from Germany and a couple from Germany and my parents and I would lay down on the dock and just touch the water and it would just glow, like a glow stick in the water. Then we would turn on our backs and look at the stars and the stars were the brightest stars I have ever seen. Since there were no bright lights around, you could see every star in the sky. We stayed at dolphin bay for a week and I got my own room, which I was really excited about. The food was soooo good and you could walk out of the room and see dolphins swim by and parrots fly home to their nests every night at dusk. There was also a poison dart frog that lived right outside my room and they named it “Dutch”. It was so amazing there and I was so sad to leave.

Dolphin Bay Hideaway sounds wonderful! How I would have loved to be there to see the dolphins and the parrots, and to lie on the dock to see the stars and the bioluminescence. Thank you for transporting me there for a few minutes, anyway. What an adventure! The creepy water spider thing I could do without.
